Review: A touch of the Gothic in the Victorian Era. Gwenan Haines RESCUED BY A RAKE

I enjoyed this very much, it seemed a longer story than it actually was. Gwenan Haines packs a lot into it, keeping the tension high until the end. She paints a great picture of a Gothic setting which never degenerates into the too dark or too grim. What leaps out at you in this story are the characters: a strong heroine, no simpering virgin this, well able to take care of herself and sure of what she wants, and a darkly handsome hero suffering from a sad past and hiding away from the world immersed in his painting. The air fairly crackles between them and the high octane sex scenes are deftly drawn.
